[토익] 가산명사와 불가산명사 정리

Part5를 풀 때 빈칸에 해당하는 명사가 가산명사인지 불가산명사인지 구분하는 것은 중요하다. 정답이 달라질 수 있기 때문이다.

 

ㅣ 대표적인 가산명사, 불가산명사

가산명사	discount, rate/charge, profit, refund, detail, regulation, approach, cost/price, goods/product/item
불가산명사	money, advice, produce, furniture, machinery, access, information, equipment, merchandise, news, evidence, research, baggage/luggage, traffic, work, prograss, productivity, approval, potential

 

#대체로 불가산명사는 상위개념인 경우가 많다.

(merchandise [상품] 안에 goods, product, item [제품]이 있음.)

 

ㅣ 가산명사, 불가산명사가 선택지에 있다면?

 

가산명사는 a/an/the 같은 관사와 함께 쓰거나, 복수형태(~s)로 써야 한다.

불가산명사는 셀 수 없는 명사이기 때문에 관사(the 제외), 복수형태를 쓸 수 없고 단수취급을 한다.

따라서 문제를 풀 때 빈칸 앞에 관사가 있는지, 제시되는 단어에 ~s 형태가 붙어있는지 확인을 하는 작업은 굉장히 중요하다

approach는 가산명사이다. 빈칸 앞을 보면 관사가 보이지 않기 때문에 approach는 올 수 없다. (가산명사는 관사와 함께 쓰거나 복수형태로 쓰여야 함)
또한 해당 자리는 목적어자리로 명사가 와야 한다. 따라서 가산복수명사인 B가 정답이다

 

ㅣ사람명사는 가산명사일까? 불가산명사일까?

사람명사는 가산명사이다. 따라서 관사와 함께 쓰거나, 복수형태로 써야 한다. (위의 설명처럼 보기가 사람명사인데 앞에 관사가 없거나 복수형태로 쓰이지 않았다면 그것은 오답임)

나머지는 해석을 통해 푼다 (A)를 넣어 해석을 하면 '공석을 위한 많은 지원자들은 기본적인 직무 요건을 충족하지만, E씨는 인터뷰 단계에서 가장 큰 열정을 보여줬다'라고 해석이 된다. (B)보다는 (A)가 더 해석이 자연스럽기 때문에 정답은 A이다.
